I am watching Regis and Kelly right now, and they have Macaulay Culkin on there talking about his new movie "Saved" which open today in limited theaters. It's supposed to be a "comedy", set in a Christian school, where one of the characters comes out as beng gay. So...I looked for a synopsis of the movie online, and found this:

quote:
"Good girl" Mary and her domineering best friend, Hilary Faye, are starting their senior year at the top of the social food chain at American Eagle Christian High School--that is until Mary's boyfriend tells her that he thinks he may be gay. When Jesus appears to her in a vision, she heeds his message to "do everything she can to help her boyfriend" and, to her horror, she ends up pregnant. Suddenly, Mary begins to question everything she's believed in, and Hilary Faye and her devoted "disciples" soon turn against her. As an outcast, Mary finds herself alone until she's befriended by the school's other pariahs: Hilary Faye's cynical wheelchair-bound brother, Roland; the principal's skater heart-throb son, Patrick; and the high school's lone Jew, an exuberant rebel named Cassandra. The group of outsiders band together to navigate the treacherous halls of high school and make it to graduation--ultimately learning more about themselves, finding faith in unexpected places, and realizing what it truly means to be Saved!

Keeping in mind that it is supposed to be a comedy...I was wondering what your thoughts about this movie are?

God Bless you all,

shy

I'm having a hard time picturing it as a comedy....maybe more of a "buddy film?" KWIM?

I rented this movie recently. I didn't find it blasphemous. What I did find was that it "spoofed" the church/Christians as they can be at times. Like when the girl threw her Bible at the one they were trying to save and yelled, "I do so have the love of Christ in me!" It brought home some relevant truths.

I really enjoyed it. I'm interested in anyone else's opinion who's seen the movie.

I rented the movie and thought it was pretty much dead on from what I remembered in high school. I had a posse of 'friends' following me in high school, determined they were going to get me 'saved'! I even did the fake being saved just to get them off my back...gosh, I was soooo bad.
