Martina Navratilova has done it again. She won another title at Wimbleton after 8 yrs. Billie Jean King also won 20 Wimbledon titles. Navratilova has a record nine titles in women's singles, seven in women's doubles and four in mixed doubles.
I am so inspired by Martina and have followed her career for over 30 yrs. Billie Jean is why i first took up tennis over 30 yrs ago and tho i cannot play anymore i still love the sport. Now I am playing golf and yesterday was the first day of playing since my cancer surgery two Octobers ago. and would you believe we were rained out on the 3rd hole?!? lol, oh well we got a raincheck and i got to watch women's golf on tv! peace, skye |

I love tennis!
I can't play worth beans though. LOL Actually, i haven't played for lack of a tennis 'partner' for quite a long time. I hope to be playing again soon though. I do love to watch the aussie open and any other tennis i can on TV. I like to watch the Williams sisters play, and Capriati too. I like to watch men's tennis too though i think my fav (Pat Rafter) is not playing anymore. Anyways, i like tennis Blessings, Tric Phillipians 4:13 "I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me." |

Skye,
did you catch any of the Open playoff today... I was just reading about it... the first time in "forever" that a qualifier wins the open... can you imagine... your first tournament win is at the Open? I can't play golf any more, but I still love to watch them. Maybe one day I'll be able to play... keep playing tennis.. you're my inspiration. Grace and Peace, Tiggertoo |

Skye,
Sorry you can't play tennis anymore... I never was good at tennis... but loved racquet ball.. and golf. Since I hurt my back, both are out of the question... but I haven't stopped dreaming. G&P Tiggertoo |

Yes, Skye, Martina Navratilova is a pretty incredible athlete. I was really glad I had a chance to see that 20th victory on TV. My dream was soccer, but I love to watch Wimbledon. Although I'm old and decrepit, I'm still dreaming as well, Tiggertoo!

Skye,
As a 15 year old I became a tennis addict- both watching and playing because of one cool woman - Pam Shriver. I "worshipped" her. Scrapbooks, letters. videos. Martina of course featured a lot, being Pam's partner (in doubles I mean lol) The amazing thing is I never wanted to watch men's tennis, but I never realised I was gay until I was 31 (and married). At least I know why I was such a fan, now. Actually people used to tease me that Pam was gay and I stood my ground. As it turned out she wasn't gay (she's just married for the second time-her first hubby sadly died) but I WAS!!! Tennis isn't as good anymore. I used to love Jana Novotna and was really pleased when she finally won Wimbledon, but she's retired now too. Serena Williams is great to watch and Lindsay Davenport, Jennifer Capriatti, Amelie Mauresmo.... One of the best things about tennis now is the Aussie resurgence with the guys. Pat Rafter may have retired after a brilliant career, but we've still got Lleyton Hewett and Mark Phillopousis The greatest is love |

We grew up during a very special time in womens tennis, what with the great Navratilova/Evert rivalry, the changing of tennis from finesse to power, the improvement in equipment and the contagious effect this had on increasing the ranks of tennis players across the country.
I grew up in a family that lived and breathed golf - my grandfather belonged to 4 different golf clubs and had several hole-in-ones. My mother was taught by well known golf pros. Both my parents and my brother play, as do my nephews. I hate to play golf! I'm always on the opposite fairway due to a hook or a slice. If there's water to be found, no matter how little, I can find it for you w/o a divining rod. Plus, I'd rather look at the wildlife in the trees than remember to follow where I hit the danged ball. Heck, I hate to play golf! Tennis was my game, but wouldn't you know, the tennis team practiced during the period that I had honors geometry and we all know how much honors geometry will help you in life, so I had to make the tough decision whether to play tennis or commit myself to mind-numbing planes in space intersecting tangentially with lines and circles. And as you can imagine, I went with honors geometry (really lame decision). If only I'd gone the tennis team route I might could have played at Wimbledon - yeah, and hell could still freeze over, but not likely! I miss the days when honor played at centre court - Chris Evert, Martina, Evonne Goolagong, Pam Shriver, Tracy Austin. Goolagong was my favorite because she had heart and was a class act. I still play, it just looks like slow motion. |

I like Alex Corretja. But for playing style, I like Pat Rafter. I love playing tennis and hope to find friends with similar interest.

My favourite treat when I was little was to be taken to Wimbledon after school. We used to stand by the gangways of the main courts and the attendents would let us sit in on a match for free, if there were any seats left. Got to see all of the great stars of the 70's and 80's. I feel very privileged to have had such an experience - and the sun was always shining as well!
