My mother always tried to get me to carry a purse. For years, I carried a "fanny pack/belly bag". When she died, she left some cute purses that were small. I really liked them. Then, I graduated to a larger purse. But, I don't carry it to work, only if I go into a store.

tee hee.... in England we call purse is what ladies carry their money in (men have wallets)... and a handbag is what your purse goes in.
I have lots of handbags/purses. Some are for evenings, some are for treking aronud town with my cello on my back, and i also use backpacks sometimes. i rarely go without cause i hate having buldges in my trouser pockets... i find by the time i have my mobile (cell phone), purse, comb, keys, and drivers licence i need a bag to carry it all around in.

Ahhhh purses/handbags or whatever you call them.....I have the handbag to beat all handbags...it's about 2'x 1'x 8" and it's the color of Doc's cowboy boots, red. BUT it's not the bag itself that's note worthy but what's in it that make friends laugh. After being a cop for 22 years, the bag holds a small arsenal and can get pretty heavy. If I got into a jam but didn't have time to get out the right object, I could just swing the stupid thing and have an instant TKO. Giddy up.

Hey New Song, Y'know Abby, you and I briefly had this discussion when you visited our house, and I said, I DO carry a purse. I've carried one since I found the perfect purse at Mountain Equipment Co-op back when I was 18.
Now, my mother in law is making me a custom made purse just for all the pockets and compartments I specifically need.
Abby, my wife, on the other hand, carries a "man's" wallet in her back pocket. (Does that make her a "real" dyke/lesbian?)
If she wants to bring anything else with her when we go out, she hands it to me to put in my purse. *rolls eyes* I hate that! LOL
I couldn't go anywhere without my purse -- especially because I find it awkward to carry everything with my physical disability and balance problems.

Jones, You have to learn the "right thing" to say to get things in your wife's purse. Your see, I carry a purse but don't carry much in it. My wife carries everything in hers. A few times of admiting I am not responsible for things, she gladly sticks it in her purse. Makes her think she is special!!

It's so nice to start the day out with a giggle...I've been enjoying this thread today! I haven't carried a purse since age 14. Does that mean I didn't know the real signs of being a lesbian until now? I'm so glad to be learning these important things; I guess it's never too late! I do carry a leather shoulder bag (like a soft briefcase) most everywhere I go, and a little leather wallet. At work I like to wear dresses and skirts, and got frustrated because I couldn't find enough of them with pockets. So I crocheted a little "pocket" for myself that I wear with the inadequate clothes. I do get very upset when anyone refers to it as a purse!

perhaps a wagon would be a good idea, i've just reread that list and it sounds scarily girly!
I should add that i dont carry all that around when im working on the farm... that's the one time i do use my pockets but since i only need to carry a penknife it's not too much trouble! Just imagine if ihad a handbag when i was driving the tractor- how funny that would be!

What are pockets for?? As someone who hates wearing skirts, I go for pockets...wallet, keys, phone...all I need. I do also have a VERY small backpack to use on occasion when I might splash out and take tissues and some water out with me, but that's about it. I love the way you guys use the name 'fanny pack' for what we call a 'bum bag' here. You NEVER call it a fanny pack in the UK cos a 'fanny' has a totally different meaning and refers to a different part of the female anatomy...... so patting someone on the fanny would probably get you arrested in the UK!!! I heard very funny tape of the comedienne Suzanne Westenhoffer (Westernmier??) doing a stand up show when she talks about lesbians and purses and the person who gets to be the 'designated purse carrier' when a bunch of lesbians goes out. Any of you heard it?

I'm really enjoying this thread. I carry a day timer. I used to carry a wallet, but moved up to a daytimer. I've tried to carry a purse, but it's just not me. When I'm desperate, I carry a back pack...

I'm with you Doc....I just pull out what I need.....but not like you I don't have crates....lol...aren't you the one that puts on mascara while you're driving?
And when it comes to Kimmie,Linda and I left Kimmie in a store in Estes Park, went through 3-4 others, came back and Kimmie was still in the same store and yes we had to hog tie her and drag her out.....actually I just told her she was walking home since I had the truck keys and if she wanted a ride she had better giddy up.....but whine, moan and complain.....wow...
