I've heard this. Does anyone know if it's true, and is it reliably documented?

I've heard there are a few books out that make this statement (Boswell?) but I haven't researched it out myself. If you find anything let us know! It would be pretty amazing if the early Jewish Christian church performed such marriages because the Jewish culture was so focused on procreation for the survival of their nation (e.g. marriage and having children was EXPECTED of every able bodied person). That sanctioning marriages that could not produce children I'm sure would be highly frowned upon. But who knows? Maybe later on as the Church matured and begin to grow away from their Jewish roots? I know homosexuality in the Roman and Greek culture was pretty wide spread and accepted. Heck - the warriors of Troy were ENCOURAGED to 'bond' with one another (and almost forbidden to be around their wives and children for extended periods of time). Why? Because they felt that the solider would fight to the bitter end if he was fighting for someone he loved (i.e. the solider next to him) rather than just for 'his nation'. (sometimes the History channel has some interesting stuff..).

"and the greatest of these is love."
