Sorry about that I pushed the wrong button. To continue, that next Monday my friend called and wanted the number of the pastor. Since we were going down that week, I invited her to come along. Shortly before the meeting she called and said that her brother and partner had come to town that day and wondered if they could come along. Upon hearing this the original couple decided to stay home and let the two who wanted to get married take their place. In short, God used me to make the appointment that would lead to their marriage. That is how I have come to the conclusion that God is alright with same sex marriage. It was a lovely wedding

I see that the story has come up in the correct order. My original question was -Has anyone had a similar experience?

It could be gambling but I felt that it was no coincidence that it happened that way. What are some of the verses that would refer to something like this. How do you scripturally know that it is alright to marry, then. Still searching!

I have just finished reading about"asking God for a sign" on another page and wanted to mention that on my way to an Evangelical Lutheran meeting one day, I asked God that if I was defininely supposed to be going to this meeting, that my daughters friends house would be close to the church. It was, I could have walked to it if I KNew which one it was.

I do not want to give the impression that I look for signs, but many things have happened in this journey that seem to be God's leading.

I have a little quote that says "Coincidence: When God does a miracle and keeps it anonymous". I also believe things happen for a reason. If that experience helped you to be accepting and supportive a same-sex marriages, I think it is wonderful and beautiful. Glad to have you here Whosoever. Your struggles and the steps you took to get to where you are encourage me as I live my life as a gay Christian.

My journey has been both painful and wonderful. I will tell you of more of my leadings at another time. I felt that if my friends had been in a relationship for 25 years, they should be able to get married. I have noticed how partners truly love each other and it just seems right.

Please know that I understand your searching and that wish to know absolutely, for sure how God feels about these issues. BEen there, done that & I hear you, sister! Sometimes it seems we walk a fine line, wanting to do absolutely God's will, not wanting to hurt anyone in the process, etc., etc. This isn't an easy process for any involved! Gotta go; grandkids just arrived & chaos is on the way!

I read the part of the story posted in this thread, and I think I get the point enough from the other posts to comment.
I've heard of "putting out a fleece" or asking God for a sign to show whether a decision is "right". I've done it, too. Lately, I've come to believe that when we have a decision to make, there is not one single choice that is "right" or within God's will. I believe that many, or even all, of the options we have may be within God's will. More importantly, God has given us free will to choose as we please, no matter what our motivations or options are. We do the best we can with what we know and who we are at the time. I also believe that we are co-creators with God. When we make a decision, God can work with us, through us, and through others to bring blessing out of it. I've seen God create blessings and beauty out of some of the worst tragedies, in my own life and in stories people have told me about their lives. This has come to be the more important understanding/belief for me. Now, I don't worry so much when I make a decision. I pray for God's guidance, but, as a patient told me last year, "I know that God will fix any mistakes I make." I've also seen much evidence of what I call God's perfect timing. My peer group here at the TX hospital, for example. I knew nothing about them when I agreed to come here and be in a learning community with them. And I was still closeted at that time. Then I came out as a lesbian, and arrived here, to find out that both of my peers are also lesbians! Other things have worked out perfectly about my coming here, too. When I agreed to come, I knew that I didn't have enough money to make the move from PA. I told God, "All right. You want me to go to TX- you have to find a way for me to get there." And it all worked out, from finding an apartment long distance (it's beautiful) to my Grandma coming along on the trip and paying for car repairs along the way. I'll stop here. God is amazing. Thanks be to God. |

JennyH,
Thanks so much for sharing. I think I have come to believe very similiar to you. I have held on to Proverbs 3:5-6 reminding me to trust God with all my heart and he will direct my paths. Actually, my wife has taught me how to have faith and believe that if God wants it to happen, He will make it happen and if not, He must have a better plan. My move to CA was an amazing work of God. In the midst of it all happening, I remember sitting back thinking "what have I done to make this happen?" I applied for a job. This is where God wanted me and I am so glad to be here. Glad Texas is working out for you. Are you going to talk Texan with an Eastern accent? |

Groucho,
Let's see...I can tell that my pronunciation is changing already. Instead of "Harris" I now say it "Hairis". Ma'm slipped out twice today. I don't know if my rate of speech has slowed down any yet. Sometimes people have some trouble understanding me because I talk so quickly (compared to these Southerners). I'm sure my Eastern friends and family will pick up on the changes before too long. Let's hear it for assimilation!! |

There have been many times in my life when I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that what I was doing was completely God's will in my life. I may not have known at that moment but years later and looking back I could see that had I not followed a certain path, things would've turned out much differently for me.
I don't think it's seen as happenstance, but rather confirmation. God knows I need something visible to show me what He wants of me. And He shows it to me time after time. I could go on and on about specific instances and take up a lot of time and space but I won't. I will share one quick one though... Years ago I was in Bible College and very broke. I had a total of $18.26 to my name. A girl in the dorm needed to go to the Dr. and her $ from her parents hadn't come in the mail. She needed $18 to see the Dr. so I lent it to her...I had .26 left and .25 was needed to take the bus home from school. It 'happened' that I got a ride home that day, saving me both time and money. When I reached my mailbox I looked inside to see an envelope with a return address I didn't recognize. I opened it up and inside was a cheque made out to me from people I didn't know for $100! They were friends of friends and had been blessed financially and asked if anyone had someone in their lives that needed some $. Someone mentioned me and passed on an address. I was unbelievably blessed that day and have never forgotten it. |

What a wonderful testimony, Jones! I got both chills and tears as the same time! I suppose your "chance" meeting of your girlfriend was another of these times? Smile. God has truly blessed you!
This is a great reminder that although we must remain focussed on the future, we really do need to stop once in a while to look back at miracles that have happened in the past! Sometimes those are small things, other times, they are large! |

Thanks Carol...sometimes it's good to look back and just reflect on the blessings in our lives. Sure there have been tough times...I've had a bunch of them but through it all, it's always the faithfulness of God that has pulled me through.
and yes, Chris and I 'happened' to meet each other on a night when neither one of us was planning to go to church and we both sat in the back! and look where we are now, wow! God bless you all, this site is a blessing to me. |

Hey maybe we could start a "testimony of God's goodness" category? |

SOne little testimony story. I have been making a quilt for my brother and his partner to celebrate their wedding in February past. It is called the Crossway quilt and is on the prarie heritage site. I did mine at Ron's request in cream, copper and black. I found some fabric on the internet that was black with Bibles etc. on it and did the top. I happened to order some fabric from a lady and asked her if she happened to have fabric for the backing of a quilt with crosses. She had a cream piece with crosses and the Ten Commandments on it and really gave me quite a good buy on it. I just got it back this week since I had it machine quilted and it is lovely. All we need to do now is decide on the binding. I haven't told you yet that my brothers partner is also a drag queen and was the twentieth empress of Calgary. The fabric on the front is a bit glittery and the copper and black blend is quite rich. It is just right for a minister and drag queen. I think that when we do something out of love, why God even helps pick out the fabric. The quilt shop owner thought there was something a little special about this too and I need to send her the picture she requested. Happenstance? I wonder. This site is wonderful and I am enjoying your answers. Whosoever
