You will not fear the terror by night, or the arrow that flies by day, or the pestilience that stalks in darkness, or the destruction that wastes at noonday. I have spent most of my life assailed by fears; starting in about 5th Grade, I began a series of phobias that only ended with the start of medication and God's Grace more recently than I care to say. One phobia melted into another phobia. Freedom only meant transfering my fear to another fear; from the dark to a Supernova of the sun to poison, one phobia morphed into another. I did not know life without fear. I had no idea that other people did not have the secret terrors the spilled into every area of my life. One thing I could not comprehend, maybe because it did not exist for me was the safety of peace, more importantly, God's Peace. I had head knowledge about God, but not the faintest understanding about the peace that surpasses all understanding. It took me years to finally understand a God Who was compassionate and cared about me. But when it did come, I was finally able to find a measure of the peace and security that had always evaded me. God was more than an angry God seeking revenge on wayward girls; He was a Protector that cared about me, personally. The revenge, the punishment I feared had been paid for me two thousand years before my birth on a cross on Golgotha. I will never be able to be the person both God and I would like me to be, yet in spite of that, Jesus's sacrifice covers me. I have stability and security because of Him. My sins were cleansed by the Blood of His Death on the Cross. It is in that understanding that I began to have hope, peace and stability. Our security is not in our own actions and abilities; our security is in the sacrifice of Christ. When we take it off of ourselves, and others we can finally find the peace we seek and stand in it.
