In the last year or so, I have developed an ear and a heart for listening for God's voice. Before that, I used to be jealous of people who could. But I realize now I wasn't ready for it.

However, in the last few months as I've been going through a testing period in my life, I haven't really heard his still, small, quiet voice. I keep waiting to hear something from Him... but I continue to wait.

I guess my post is being made because, I'm curious... how have you heard his voice? Any special stories? Are any of you wishing you'd hear from him now?

Share! I want to know more about your lives. Smile

One of the most interesting ways I heard from God was the first time -- through a TV show! I was watching The O.C. of all things when one of the characters said one line that spoke to me on a spiritual level. I immediately knew it was God speaking to me...and I was in awe at the fact that God can even use mainstream, selicular television to speak to us!

Share, share...that's only fair, right? Big Grin

"I will be the answer at the end of the line
I will be there for you while you take the time
In the burning of uncertainty, I will be your solid ground
I will hold the balance if you can't look down

If it takes my whole life, I won't break, I won't bend
It will all be worth it- worth it in the end
'Cause I can only tell you what I know
That I need you in my life
When the stars have all gone out
You'll still be burning so bright..."

Dear Keri

I do also often hear Gods voice in my heart. Rationally we could say, that I am just hearring my self, but I chose to say, that it is him. He often confort me and help me, when I feel, that it is hard to be both christian and lesbian.

Once I did ask him what to do (that was in regard of my mother, something like should I call her or not). The answar in my heart was, "why do you ask me, when you have already disided what to do? - take responsibility on what you do in stead of trying to push it on me"! Smile

PS.

I love your quote, have you written it yourself? I actually love it so much, that I have put it on my own webside. Smile

Blessings

Karen

Most of the time I hear the Holy Spirit's leading in my heart. On a few occassions I've heard the Holy Spirit's almost audible words in my mind (very, very clear words). On even rarer occassions I've heard the Lord's voice audibly - both those occassions were when I was younger and were life and death circumstances where the Lord needed my attention immediately (one was a miracle that saved my life).

So to answer you question. I think the Lord speaks to me almost exclusively now through the Holy Spirit's leading in my heart (rarely words that I could distingish as clear words) and through the Word of God and through others. The last two are the primary way He speaks to me now.

"and the greatest of these is love."

More than anything else, the Lord speaks to me by His Spirit through reading His Word. His Word is Alive! But sometimes the Lord speaks through dreams to me. When I wake up the dream will almost always have an interpretation along with it. When I was young, real young, the Lord spoke to me out loud a few times, but not like that for many years. I think sometimes when we are young in the Lord He does that till our Faith is sure and then by use of experience the Holy Spirit prompts you in your Spirit and we begin to recognize it. More lately He has spoken thru poems He gives me.

HIS GRACE AND PEACE,
ROSE

Hello everyone!

I've had times when I don't hear God, and that's usually because I'm not listening for whatever reason.

But when I am being open, I hear a number of ways. Most often it's a kind of "voiceless-voice" that I don't ever have to second-guess. It's not a "sound" per se, and yet I do "hear" it. Its also different than a human voice because the understanding is instantaneous - no split second of brain-speech processing to comprehend what the other person is talking about. I just comprehend immediately. And my answer is usually "yes, Lord!" because He's usually pointing me to seeing something I need to see, or telling me something I should hear. Sometimes there's been more - when more was needed, or when I was not paying attention or not wanting to obey for some reason.

Thanks for all your responses. It's great to hear different people's experiences. Smile

I find that usually I hear God's voice in my heart. Sometimes it's stronger/louder at certain times than others... and sometimes it's just a feeling. But you know the feeling it's you -- it's God.

Of course, I tend to see/hear him everywhere. The O.C. was a perfect example. After that I realized his voice and signs are everywhere if we just allow ourselves to be open to it. Especially in nature... the wind... or the clouds... sometimes there's answers there.

One of the biggest ways I get encouragement and guidance is through God's word. However, I have a little method... where I pray before I open it that God would lead me to where he wants me to read. And then I ... FLIP! lol, yep. And usually within the first two flips, I land on something very relevant and very much something I needed to hear. I've especially been doing that lately when I needed guidance on a situation with my ex-girlfriend. It was through this that I got some answers...and then through prayer that I finally got the full picture -- the real answer.

God is great. He is absolutely amazing! I am currently in awe of the miracles he is bringing into my life...and working on at this very moment. Amazing. Absolutely amazing.

Oh, and Karen? The quote is from a song by Sarah McLachlan. Smile It's called "Answer" and is absolutely beautiful. You just download it and listen to it -- you won't regret it. Smile
