You have given me the heritage of those who fear Your Name. Psalm 61:b
Is there a greater Hope than a heritage from God? Are we correct in assuming that a heritage comes from our lineage or social ranking? I read in the newspaper today that Princess Diana's mother, Frances Shand Kydd has died in England. The report overshadows all the local obituaries on the page. It details her lineage as an English Blueblood. Scattered about to the right of the column are the local obituaries. One of them reads; "His passions were teaching and studying the Bible, playing bass guitar and worshipping God." This man had the heritage of those who feared His Name. From my study and what I have been taught about the word, "fear" in the Bible, it is more of a profound respect than a quaking emotion. And within this fear of God, there is a heritage. It does not matter whether one is from one the priveledged classes of England by accident of birth, or born Untouchable in the slums of New Delhi; We have our heritage from God and in God. I wonder how much more joyfully we could live if we were fully convinced of this heritage! If a young lady I was witness to that jumped from a building were sure of her heritage from the Lord, would she have taken such a tragic route? Surely, this heritage is our hope; not because of our birthright, but because God chooses to give us this legacy.
