The righteous care about justice for the poor, but the wicked have no such concern. Proverbs 29:7
Back in the 1980's was the "We are the World" song to raise money to feed Ethiopia. Many big name stars stood shoulder to shoulder to create this work. The rest of us sung along with it when it played on the radio. It was truly a good song. But mostly, we bought it because we knew the proceeds were going to feed a starving generation in Africa; pot-bellied children with desperate eyes. Mothers whose skin barely stretched over their jutting bones. Depressed fathers who had lost any means of supporting their families. A long-standing drought had ravished their country. An jaded government failed to act quickly enough to save many lives. So, we bought the music, and the money paid for food for these people. It was a gracious gesture, a needed gesture. Yet, when the food arrived, away from the bright lights of the media that had focused on the stars that made it possible, it was sparsely distributed. At least, this is what I heard; (I cannot substantiate all of this) quite a bit of it was left to rot where it was shipped. I was angry about this because I had envisioned children with full plates. I had seen, in my minds eye mothers who were beginning to plump up from the nutrition they recieved, and fathers who were strengthened again to provide for their families. Instead, an evil government who obviously controlled the people by food (A very EFFECTIVE method, I might add!) only allowed a trickle to get to those desperate people. Evil people fail to take God into account when they commit their atrocious deeds. The power that they wield, the power that consumes them, is only a vapor in the great space of eternity. Then, will come their judgement as the myriads of poor children sing in the choirs of Heaven, untouched by any more suffering, only aware of the Presence of God. I pity these people, these persons who do not take God into account when they deprive the poor of their due. For theirs will be the greater loss.
