They put gall in my food and gave me vinegar for my thirst. Psalm 69:21

A foreshadowing of the Lord: a Whisper from the past of the future's secrets. Like Psalm 22, Psalm 69 is believed to contain prophecies about the Messiah; we see this on the Cross as vinegar is handed up to quench His agonized thirst.
At twelve years old, the year before He became a Man in the eyes of the Jewish nation, learned men marveled at His Comprehension and understanding of Scripture (See Luke 2:41-52). This knowledge took into account His Destiny; which was to die for us. Knowing this, He did not turn back.
What if there was a book that told you exactly how you were going to die? I went through a period where I was shocked by the fact that I someday would not be here on Earth. It frightened me. Nibbling around the edges of those thoughts was the anxious question of HOW I would die. It will happen. I wondered if I would die a painful death, or quietly fade away in my sleep. I thought about the possibility of dying as a victim of murder, or being stopped in the tracks of my life by a sudden heart attack. In the midst of this I remembered that God promised me when the time came, He would walk me through the Valley of the Shadow of death. And I will fear no evil, for He will be with me. (Paraphrase of: Psalm 23:4) That has brought me immeasurable comfort. But what if I read a book that told me how I was going to die? And how it would be a rather ugly death? A painful death? An agonizing death? While this may sound morbid, I have been with a dying Christian and must tell you that it was one of the single most Holy experiences I have ever had- God literally directed the whole experience into a thing of beauty. While it was painful (And I don't know if I will EVER get over her death on this earth.)there was also an ethreal beauty that I have never experienced before....so maybe I don't see the subject of death as morbid.
Jesus DID read Scripture that although may have sounded cryptic to many, gave Him full knowledge of what was to come. Like Jonah, He did not head the other way on a boat to Tarshish. He knew what was coming. "The Passion of the Christ" which I watched through my fingers was a very vivid re-enactment of what truly happened.
He knew but did not turn back. He did not turn back because He saw you and I in front of Him in the future.
