Acts 9:18 And immediately there fell from his eyes as it had been scales: and he received sight forthwith, and arose, and was baptized.
Isaiah 60:1 Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee. We all know about dear brother Paul's conversion and how he was blinded and received sight. While this could be natural eyesight, I wonder if we can see something spiritual our Lord may be showing us? Was the glory of the Lord that spiritual eyesight that would go so deep that even dear Peter would have a hard time undertanding the things he spoke and wrote? Job 41:15 His scales are his pride, shut up together as with a close seal, We can see the Lord likens pride to scales. Could these scales be the pride removed from how dear Paul viewed the word of God. The removal of seeing things through the natural eye and using spiritual eyesight, or discernment instead? Matthew 6:22 The light of the body is the eye... John 1:4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men. Romans 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. We see that our Lord likens the eye to the light and the light to life and life to the Spirit. Since we see that the scales are pride and the eye is the Spirit, could the Lord be showing us that the sight that dear Paul would receive was the Spirit of God and not the spirit of man? Even the removal of a haughty spirit? When I see this portion of scripture I see where on Paul's conversion he went from looking at the scriptures with his natural eyes to that which the Spirit of God reveals. We know that Paul was a pharisee that was well educated in the law of God but persecuted the church. If we use our natural eyes the spirit of man within us will show us the natural things of the word. If we use the Spiritual eyesight the Spirit of God will reveal the spiritual things in the word to glorify Jesus, our Lord. How many out there look at the word with the natural, or carnal eye and look down their noses at others or use clobber passages instead of allowing the Spirit of God to give them the discernment to glorify our Lord? Like the pharisee that prayed within himself thanking God he wasn't like the publican. The publican was just though as he merely begged forgiveness. 1 John 2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. Before our precious Lord returns I hope and pray that he will remove any scales of pride from our eyes and illuminate our spirit with His precious Spirit. That He'l give us the spiritual discernment and eyesight to behold the wonders of his glory in the law and prophets that we might have a spiritual eyesight that is pleasing to him. May God bless you.
