We who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak and not to please ourselves. Each one of us should please his neighbor for his good to build him up. Romans 15:1-2

I am sad to say that we are part of a very self-centered generation. Society counsels us to think about ourselves first. It is all about loving ourselves. It is all about me. In reading the Bible, I find that to be a worldly focus, and not a Christ-centered focus.
At times I have wondered what it would be like to live in a world where everyone thought about other people; you would not need to think about yourself. There would be a billion other people who were already thinking about you. I imagine this is the way Heaven will be so we will actually have a chance to experience it. But we can begin today to live a bit of that Heaven in building others up. Do you know someone who is depressed? Send them a note from a "secret friend" telling them how wonderful they are. Find out who is a shut-in in your church, and send them a card. Better yet, if you know them, give them a visit or a call! Find something good to say about every person you work with every day. If you happen to get into the middle of a gossip session at lunch, mention something nice about that person. Tell your spouse at least three reasons why you love them each day. Hug your kids. Tell them why they mean so much to you. Sit by a person at church who is new. There are a thousand things you can do in your part of the world. I am always a bit disgusted when a commercial suggests you should be greedy and keep the product all to yourself. I think it would be a much more positive slant if they suggested you should share their product with everyone you meet. That way not only would they sell more of their product, but the consumer would also be a part of a positive connection of love. So go today; share what you have. It always tastes better that way. Build someone up. They will stand much taller. Practice for Heaven on your little bit of Earth!
