A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed. Proverbs 11:25

This Proverb is one of my favorites; it reminds me of all the generous people who have been in my life and the blessing they are to other people. Generous people do not just give away their money; they give away something intangible. It is like their whole person is steeped in generosity. They give their time, their heart and their soul for the benefit of other people. Money is surprisingly easy to give away, but the truly generous person gives with every word, with every hug, with every scripture aptly spoken, and with every cup of tea and cookie shared with them. They don't do it just because they think they will recieve some future heavenly reward; in fact, they seem oblivious to the mountains of blessing they are creating in Heaven. They give because they love to give to others. They love to share what they have. They love to share who they are. The world is a better place because of them. I think I love this Proverb because I would like to be one of these people, yet I find myself beset by my own fears and selfishness. Have you every been afraid to give? I have. But you know, the Lord is able to overcome all these things. In being generous, when we give away a cup of water, we also drink deeply of that same cup.
