Therefore, since I myself have carefully investigated everything from the beginning, it seemed good also to me write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus, so you may know the certainty of the things you have been taught. Luke 1:3-4
I have gone through many different stages of spiritual growth in my life; one early memory I have is simply of the sky with a Presence in it. Later, I would realize it was the Spirit of God. I also remember standing in front of church after services and wondering why people believed a thing like the Bible; for a very short time in my life I was an absolute atheist. These experiences seem diametrically opposed to each other, but they are on the same journey. I have been in mainline churches, extreme fundamentalist churches, liberal churches and conservative churches. At times, I have felt so close to God that I could almost feel His Breath. I have also imagined myself so far away from Him that I felt like I trod a precepts of hell. But no matter what I have felt, or where I have been in my spiritual walk, there was always the Bible to reset my focus. I went through a time in adulthood where I did not know whether the Bible was inspired or inerrant. This caused a major crisis in my life. When I went to God with this, I realized that it was Holy. That might not have answered all the questions I had about translations and inerrancy, but it renewed my faith in the Bible. It was men like Luke who took the time to write down their perceptions on their spiritual journeys that place the Bible in our hands today. I do not think a man like him simply swallowed whatever he heard. In fact, this account says he investigated the life of Jesus. So, I can relate with Him; He needed to investigate to really understand and believe. This was his journey that brought him closer to God. (And I must say, the fruit of this investigation, the Gospel of Luke has brought alot of people closer to God throught the Bible.) I needed to go through my many spiritual stages to get where I am now. These I share with you in my devotionals. You have your own experiences that are a witness to people in your own life. We all have different journeys, but they all lead to God. [ IMG ]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v285/YCBB1/Calling%20Cards/New%20Banners%20for%20CL%20Boards/BlythBannerBetter.jpg [ /IMG ] |
