Judging Prophecy

Note: These are notes jotted down from a book titled the same name "Judging Prophecy". However I will change the emphasis of these points, add a few points of my own and expand on some these in a later revision of this article. These seven points will suffice for now.

  1. No prophecy, vision or dream is of equal standing with the Bible (2 Peter 1:19-21)

  1. No new doctrine or theology can be established by prophecy, vision or dream (2 Timothy 3:16-17).

  1. All prophecy, vision or dream must be in agreement with Scripture (1 Corinthians 2:13).

  1. Prophecies, visions and dreams are to be judged by others in the church (1 Corinthians 14:29; 1 Thessalonians 5:19-21).

  1. Prophecy only tells us part of the story (1 Corinthians 13:12).

  1. Prophecy, visions and dreams can be used to give direction and to help us know God’s will concerning a particular matter. Prophecy is also used many times to provide encouragement (Acts 5,10).

  1. We are all encouraged to seek the manifestation of prophecy in our lives (1 Corinthians 14:1-4).
